The marks, the glyphs, the palette and the boilerplate, with the rules for using them.

The stamp

The whole coaster mark with its paper texture, on a transparent ground. Use it large, where the texture shows.

The marks

Four marks, each in copper, bone and ink. SVG for print and screen; PNG where a vector will not do.

Glyphs

Eight line drawings from behind the bar, 1.5 stroke on a 24-pixel grid. They take the colour of the text around them.

Palette

Each swatch shows the hex value to copy.

  • Ink #0C0A08 The ground. A warm near-black, never pure black.
  • Whiskey Amber #F4A43A The accent, lamp-lit.
  • Copper #B4702A Rules, labels and the marks on a dark ground.
  • Bone #E8DFCF The editorial ground for long-form pages, and the marks on a dark ground where copper is too warm.

Boilerplate

Mudl is a cocktail app that knows your shelf, the bar down the street, and the drink you'd reach for first. Made by Beiler Ventures LLC in Asheville, North Carolina.

Mudl is a registered assumed business name of Beiler Ventures LLC, a North Carolina limited liability company.

Founders

Mudl was co-founded by Brandon Beiler, a software developer and the tech side, and Rachel, the creative side. Both grew up around Asheville.

It began on nights out, when finding a new cocktail bar meant hours on Reddit and Google Maps. Brandon writes the Asheville pages on trymudl.com.

Using the marks

  • Always the file. Never set MUDL in a typeface; in prose it is Mudl.
  • Keep the whole ring on the seal. Never crop into it.
  • Clear space: one cap height on every side.
  • Copper or bone on a dark ground; ink on a light one.
  • Under 64 pixels wide, use the M-mark.
  • No shadow, gradient, skew, rotation, outline or bevel, and no redrawn letters.
  • Not beside another brand's logo without consent.
