We kept ending up at the same old bars.
Mudl is a cocktail app for the bars near you: their menus and prices, and what's on. At home it tracks the bottles on your shelf and the drinks they make.
The name
Mudl is muddle, spelled short.
The name comes from a bar tool. A muddler is the blunt wooden thing that presses mint and citrus into the bottom of a glass — the least ceremonious object behind any bar, and the one that does the most work. We took muddle, kept four letters, and left it misspelled on purpose. Four letters fit on a coaster.
Said out loud, it rhymes with muddle.
Brandon and Rachel
Brandon and Rachel are Mudl's co-founders, and both grew up around Asheville. Rachel is the creative side; Brandon is the tech side.
“Mudl was born from the date nights, cocktail crawls, and time spent out together, drinks shared at home together with friends or just the two of us on our back porch.”
They kept going to the same old places, so Brandon did the research on Reddit and Google Maps, and they started finding new ones. Travelling was the same problem in every town: they weren't locals, so he would spend hours finding the good spots before they went.
He built Mudl to put that at his fingertips: which bars are good, what they pour, what it's like inside, and which ones are close to wherever they're having dinner.
It's for anyone heading out with friends to find their next favorite bar, and the drink they'll order there every time.
