Mudl is a cocktail discovery app. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how you can have it removed. It covers the app and this website.

Who we are

Mudl is a registered assumed business name of Beiler Ventures LLC, a North Carolina limited liability company. The assumed business name was recorded with the Buncombe County, North Carolina Register of Deeds on July 20, 2026 (Book 6613, Page 290).

What we collect

• Account info — name, email, and profile image you provide when you sign up or sign in with Google, Meta, or Apple.
• App content — recipes, bar inventory, ratings, menus, and photos you create or upload in the app.
• Approximate location — only when you grant it, to show cocktail bars near you in Explore and to know which cities to add next. Not tracked in the background.
• Usage data — basic request logs (timestamps, endpoints, error codes) for reliability and abuse prevention. We do not track you across third-party sites.
• Product and usage analytics — events about which screens you view and features you use, tied to your account (or an anonymous first-party id before you sign in), so we can understand what is working and improve the app. The app creates an anonymous, device-bound account the first time you open it, before and without signing in, so you can browse without registering. It holds no name and no email address of yours — only a generated placeholder that identifies nothing about you — and what you browse ties to it until you sign in. This stays inside Mudl. • Crash and error diagnostics — when something breaks, we record the error (message, technical stack trace, the screen you were on, and app version) so we can fix it. First-party only.
• Feedback you send — the message, type, and optional rating you submit through the in-app feedback form, with the screen and app version attached so we can act on it.

Location

Location is optional. Nothing in Mudl requires it, and you can use Explore by choosing a city instead. When you do grant it, your device asks for an approximate fix — not a precise GPS one — and sends it with the request so we can sort places by how far away they are. We do not read your location while the app is closed.

We keep the cities you spend time in or ask about — that is how we know which city to add next. It is used to make Mudl better for you, and we never sell it.

You can withdraw the permission at any time in your browser or device settings. Explore keeps working without it.

How we use it

• To operate the app — authenticate you, serve your recipes, personalize suggestions.
• To send transactional email — verification, magic-link sign-in, password reset, and replies to what you send us.
• To debug and improve the service.
• To keep Mudl free — measure how listings and, in time, promotions perform, as described under How Mudl is funded.

Mudl is free to use. It is paid for by venues and, in time, by spirits brands — set out plainly under How Mudl is funded. This marketing website itself carries no ads.

How Mudl is funded

Mudl is free. It is paid for by venues and, in time, by spirits brands — and how that works matters, so we set it out plainly.

• Venues. A venue can claim its listing and see how that listing performs — how often its page is viewed, and, as the product grows, how often it is saved and the kinds of people it reaches, described as groups, never as individuals. We do not tell a venue who viewed its page.
• Spirits brands. Mudl will show promotions from spirits brands inside the app. When it does, the line we hold is this: we decide what to show using what we know about our users inside Mudl, and the brand receives results about how a promotion performed — reach and response for groups of people — never your identity, and never a list of users.

The principle behind both: we sell access to an audience, not the audience. Your personal information stays with Mudl. This website carries no ads.

Third parties we rely on

• Better Auth — authentication, self-hosted on our own servers.
• DigitalOcean Managed PostgreSQL — database hosting for your account and app data.
• DigitalOcean App Platform — application hosting.
• DigitalOcean Spaces — object storage for photos and internal diagnostic files.
• Resend — transactional email delivery.
• Google, Meta, and Apple — optional sign-in providers, used only if you choose one of them. Signing in that way shares your name, email, and profile image with us; it does not give us access to anything else in that account.
• Google Analytics and Umami — analytics for this website (see Analytics on this website). Umami is cookieless; Google Analytics is a Google service and sets cookies.

Maps and venue data

Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap. Venue data comes from Foursquare Open Source and from each venue's own website. No third-party ad or tracking SDKs are involved in either.

Age and children

Mudl is for adults of legal drinking age — 21 or older in the United States. It is not directed to anyone under 21, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us data, email [email protected] and we will delete it.

Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. Expired auth sessions and verification tokens are cleaned up daily. When you delete your account, the data listed below goes with it, and backups are purged on their normal rotation, typically within 30 days.

The anonymous, device-bound account described above is kept on its own schedule. A nightly job deletes any anonymous account that is more than 30 days old, has no session still in use, and has no recorded activity of any kind — nothing viewed, nothing saved, no city chosen. An anonymous account that does have activity is kept while the device is still in use, and is reviewed for deletion after 12 months of inactivity. You do not have to wait for either — an anonymous account can be deleted from inside the app at any time, under Delete your account and data.

An anonymous account is unrecoverable by design. It lives on the one device that created it. If you reinstall Mudl, clear the app's data, or move to another device, the app creates a new anonymous account, and the previous one — with everything it held — cannot be restored or reconnected to you. Signing in is what carries your data across devices.

Delete your account and data

You can delete your Mudl account from inside the app: sign in, then open Profile → Settings → Delete account. We send a confirmation link to your email, and the deletion completes when you open it.

If you have not signed in, the anonymous, device-bound account described above is deleted from inside the app too, without signing in: open Profile, then Clear this device's data. That deletes the anonymous account and the data Mudl holds on the device. There is no confirmation email, because no email was collected.

If you cannot sign in, or never installed the app, email [email protected] from the address on the account with the subject line “Delete my Mudl account”. We confirm receipt within 3 business days and complete the deletion within 30 days.

Deletion removes your user record, sessions, sign-in links to Google, Meta, and Apple, recipes, bar inventory, ratings, and uploaded photos. Menus you scanned stay with their venues, without your name attached. Backups are purged on their normal rotation, typically within 30 days.

Analytics on this website

We measure how trymudl.com is used — which pages people land on, and what leads toward the app. Some of that runs in your browser and some of it on our own servers. It is measurement only: no ad networks, no advertising audiences, nothing sold. The services involved are named under Third parties we rely on, and how Mudl is paid for is set out under How Mudl is funded. Our hosting provider also keeps ordinary server logs for reliability and abuse prevention.

Your privacy choices

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as California law defines those terms. Nothing that identifies you is handed to a venue or a brand.

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to a copy of your data or its deletion — email [email protected] with the subject “Privacy request.” We will not treat you differently for asking.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes we update the date at the top of the page. If a change materially affects what we collect or how we use it, we will say so in the app rather than leave you to find it here.
