The old Greyhound depot, with the waiting benches still built into the room.

A greyhound painting hangs over the backbar, and one of the sixteen tap handles beneath it is stamped HOUND. The bar occupies Asheville’s old Greyhound depot at 2 Tunnel Road, and the wood benches where riders once waited for the next coach are still built into the room, kept when it reopened as a bar in June 2023. From the road it barely reads as a former transit stop anymore — the facade is tiled floor to roof with a gray-and-white mountain mural, set behind a low stone retaining wall. Peter Montague, who owns Zambra, and Adam Bannasch, who owns The Copper Crown, opened it together; Zambra’s sommelier, Jennifer Thomas, runs the wine list. Well-behaved dogs are allowed, cats too. A garage door rolls back off the dining room onto a gravel patio strung with lights and set with picnic tables under the treeline. The cocktail list goes twenty-four deep: I Melt With You pairs Roku gin with yuzu sake and a yuzu-lime soda, 13 Beaches sets Los Vecinos mezcal against Bruto Americano, and the draft Greyhound (gin or vodka, Campari, grapefruit) shares its name with the old bus line. Wednesdays bring four tasting pours for five dollars, poured by a different wine distributor most weeks; the price hasn’t moved since January 2025. Bonito Kitchen handles the food, garlic shrimp and poke bowls alongside the cocktails. Go early on a weekend if the patio’s the draw, or catch a Wednesday for the wine flight.
