A purple-lit stone moai wears a shell necklace on the back bar at Asheville Yacht Club, watching the room from a shelf crowded with model sailboats and liquor bottles. It has held that spot at 87 Patton Avenue since 2007, and the phone number still spells out what’s inside — 828-255-TIKI. Carved tiki totems, wrapped year-round in strings of Christmas lights, hold up the beams over the booths, and a metal seahorse hangs from the ceiling beside a yacht racing pennant. Outside, a green octopus is painted across the sidewalk drink rail, under the brick and the compass-rose sign. None of it reads as kitsch bought by the crate; it looks accumulated, one piece at a time, over nineteen years. One tap runs Catawba Brewing; the cocktail list holds fifteen drinks at $6.50 to $11, two of them mules poured off a second tap — Absolut lime vodka at $6.50, Jameson at $7.50, both cut with ginger and habanero. The rest lean rum — Mai Tai, Monkey’s Fist, Trash Panda — with Nurse Chuckie’s Elixir (gin, elderberry tonic, mint) breaking the pattern and a House Bloody Mary built with house bacon and pickles instead of a garnish plate. The Zombie is capped at two per person, printed right on the menu — the only drink here that comes with its own rule. Start with a mule while your eyes adjust to the corners; the Zombie’s limit will still be waiting once you’ve had a proper look around.
