Mini cakes leave the kitchen wearing a chocolate tag pressed with the logo.

A thin chocolate tag, pressed with the Crave logo, rides on top of the mini cakes before they leave the kitchen. Upstairs runs brick and timber: exposed brick walls, a wood-beamed ceiling threaded with ductwork, tufted leather booths, and ladder shelving stacked with books along the street-facing window. Downstairs is a separate room, built around an exposed stone foundation wall, a worn leather chesterfield, velvet chairs in purple and blue, and bottles lit on built-in shelving. The cocktail list runs past twenty names before it reaches the section named Sippable Desserts, drinks built to be the course rather than sit beside it. Chocolate Cocaine, S’more Often, Berry Naughty. A run of espresso martinis sits next to it — Banana Bread, Baklava Java — and a feature list built around a Habanero Passionfruit Margarita, finished with red alae salt. The O.G. Old Fashioned sells by the bottle for forty-four dollars, small-batch bourbon and demerara against a list that otherwise runs fourteen to eighteen. It is one of two locations under the name, the other in Charlotte, but the Asheville room sits at 41 North Lexington Avenue, patio meeting the corner at Walnut with a two-basin fire pit built into the middle of it. The room goes twenty-one and up after nine, which turns a dessert stop with kids in tow into something else at the exact hour most tables are settling in. Ask for the room downstairs if the bar upstairs is full — the stone wall and the chesterfield are worth the trip on their own.
