Visuals opened June 7, 2024, on the roof of Eulogy Music Hall, one flight above Burial Beer Co.‘s South Slope taproom at 40 Collier Avenue. Tim Gormley, who co-founded Burial Beer, is Visuals’ creative director, running its cider and aperitif program; Evan Lewandowski heads the wine, made in Geyserville, California, from Sonoma and Mendocino County fruit, while the cider ferments on native yeast from North Carolina apples. The deck is broken into smaller rooms by raw cedar slats, its built-in benches wrapped around terrazzo drum tables and faceted concrete stools, taps mounted below an open brick-cell shelf stacked with the label’s own bottles and a run of dried botanicals curing above it. Cedar decking overhead carries a steel beam strung with heat lamps and a ceiling fan, built for shoulder-season nights as much as summer ones, and the railing looks out at a parking deck wrapped in painted murals and the ornamented cornice of an old brick warehouse across the block. Cocktails run nine to sixteen dollars — Melon Patch Kid, Coconut Grove, Azzuro Driftwood Signal — and four of the lighter ones, Briar Patch, Snapdragon Snap Pea, Sunchaser, and Summer Sting, are built on hop water instead of soda. A Seance line of cannabis sodas steps Delta-9 and CBD up by the milligram: 2.5, 5, or 10, all three still twenty-one dollars, so the math rewards ordering the strongest one. No pets on the roof. Made under Gormley and Lewandowski, the wine is the more serious pour up here than anything called the Melon Patch Kid.
