Wine & Roses
A parlour bar in the Rosalind, with Zelda Fitzgerald on the shelf.
A shelf in the lounge holds a black-and-white photograph of a woman in a drop-waisted dress, a paperback of Save Me the Waltz, and a biography of Zelda Fitzgerald wedged in next to it. Wine & Roses is the parlour bar built into the Rosalind building, one of four historic houses that make up the Zelda Dearest hotel at 150 South Lexington Avenue in the South Slope, three of the four listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Jacob Sessoms wrote the beverage list — he had already run rooms at Table, All Day Darling, and Golden Hour at The Radical Hotel before this one. The list stays short: The Lost Generation is gin, lime, green Chartreuse, and Luxardo; the Jazz Age Old Fashioned starts with bourbon that has already been clarified; Green Light adds grapefruit to rum and the same Luxardo. That is the entire cocktail list, alongside a wine list and a rotating cast of local beer and cider. The room holds thirty-five seats under four brass-and-crystal chandeliers, with a marble-striped back bar under an ornate mirror. Live jazz plays every other Friday, no cover. Come on a Friday for the music, order the Jazz Age Old Fashioned, and claim one of those thirty-five seats before the room fills.
